Webster Technique

West Hartford Chiropractic LLC Offers the Webster Technique for Pregnant Women

Dr. Moshe Laub is a certified Webster Technique Practitioner. He has been involved in the research and treatment of Lower Back Pain and Pregnancy since 1985. As both a Chiropractic Physician and a Physical Therapist, he provides the most effective care due to his extensive experience in both fields, for women's health, pregnancy, and postpartum-related conditions. Most of his pregnant patients are referred by their OBGYN Physicians, Midwives, Doulas, friends, and family members. One effective treatment option we offer for pregnant women is the Webster Technique.

.

What Is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is defined by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association as "a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction. In so doing, neuro-biomechanical function in the sacral/ pelvic region is improved."

Why Is the Webster Technique Used?

The ICPA recognizes that in a theoretical and clinical framework of the Webster Technique in the care of pregnant women, sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia). Dystocia is caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby malpresentation. Therefore, the correction of sacral subluxation may positively affect all of these causes of dystocia.

This clinical and theoretical framework proposes that sacral misalignment may contribute to these three primary causes of dystocia via uterine nerve interference, pelvic misalignment, and the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. The resulting tense muscles and ligaments and their aberrant effect on the uterus may prevent the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth. The Webster technique can prevent this from occurring, ensuring that the baby is in the proper position for birth.

Benefits of This Technique

The benefit of this technique is to provide a natural way for a breech baby to turn before labor starts. This can decrease a mother's chances of needing a c-section. Although a c-section can be a perfectly safe way to deliver a child, it is better for her long-term recovery if a mother can avoid this major surgery. In addition to this, the Webster Technique can also help mothers to feel more comfortable during their last trimester. As the baby grows and takes up more room, the mother will start to feel the uterine constraint. This constraint can cause pain and discomfort in the pelvic area as well as the back. Relieving this constraint can bring relief for these issues, making the final trimester of pregnancy more pleasant.
